The subject of this ARA series website review is http://www.gp3series.com/, the website for the new GP3 Series.  The website review was conducted Monday evening, April 26, 2010.

The website states “The goal of the new GP3 series is to give young upcoming drivers a chance to develop their driving skills and jump to the next step: GP2.  The series has been designed to make it the perfect driver training ground for GP2 and Formula One.  All but one GP3 event will follow the Formula One European Calendar giving drivers firsthand experience of racing in the Grand Prix environment and gaining that all important F1 exposure.”

The series foresees thirty drivers using the same chassis, engine and tire suppliers contesting two races per weekend including reverse grids.  A thirty-driver pre-season test has already been conducted.

Bruno Michel, GP3 Organiser, states “We will make sure that this Series will be as successful as GP2 in revealing young drivers able to jump to the next step. We are looking forward to 2010!”

GP3 seeks to accomplish these ambitious goals utilizing a Dallara chassis featuring adjustable front and rear wings.  Pirelli slick tires to GP3 series specs with O.Z. racing wheels will be used.  The engine is a two-liter single turbo 280 BHP Renault.  Hydraulics and electronics are by Magnetti Marelli.  Hewland six speed paddle shift sequential gearboxes are utilized, as are Brembo steel brakes and pads.

Drivers slated for the series include Alexander Rossi, Esteban Gutierrez, Robert Wickens, Rio Haryanto, Renger van der Zande, Tobias Hegewald, Lucas Foresti, Mirko Bortolotti, and Nico Muller.  Entrants include ART Grand Prix, Manor Racing, RSC Mucke Motorsport, Carlin, Addax, MW Arden, and Jenzer Motorsport, each a team familiar to open wheel road racing fans.

The 2010 GP3 Series schedule opens with the May 7-9 Barcelona (Catalunya) event.  The series moves on to Portimao, Valencia, Silverstone, Hockenheim, Hungaroring (Budapest), and Spa and ends at Monza with the September 10-12 event.

The website features Inside GP3, Teams & Drivers, Races & Results, Gallery, and News sections plus a Media Centre for the press.  The design is user-friendly with colorful photography.  Useful information is presented concerning the series, the car, the drivers and teams.  The website provides a comprehensive introduction to the new series.
